RULES

Rules and Training Etiquette:
-Respect your instructor, the facility, and your training partner at all times
-Train with sufficient intensity to challenge your training partner, without causing injury
-Protect yourself at all times. Combat sports carry injury risk. You are responsible for your own
well-being
-No disruptive, disrespectful, or deliberately malicious behavior will be tolerated
-DO NOT attend class under the influence of drugs or alcohol. You will be immediately
dismissed
-Maintain good personal hygiene. You will be in close physical contact with your training
partner. Please be mindful of fingernail and toenail length, to prevent injury to yourself and
your training partner
-No shoes are allowed on the training mats at any time
-Molded mouthguards, athletic supporters (for men), cups, and wrestling-style headgear are
strongly recommended, but not mandatory, for full-contact training
-The BJJ gi, or kimono, is an instrumental part of training at RCBJJ. Students will be responsible
for obtaining their own gi’s for training use. Various online resources can be utilized to obtain a
suitable gi. RCBJJ instructors can aid students in identifying and obtaining the correct design,
style, and size, if desired
-No gi classes will require attire suitable for wrestling-style contact. Common choices include
rashguards for both upper and lower-body use, knee sleeves, and/or shorts and a T-shirt. RCBJJ
instructors can aid students in obtaining the correct gear, if desired
-Many BJJ techniques can cause injury to you or your training partner if performed incorrectly.
Do not attempt any technique that you have not been trained to implement, unless under the
supervision of your instructor
-Belt/stripe progression will be determined by your instructor. Promotions will be made based
on regular attendance and a demonstration of skill progression over time. DO NOT expect to be
promoted if you are not regularly training and progressing.
-In general, instructors will assign training partners. If no assignment is made, less experienced
students must REQUEST to train with any student who is more experienced. The more
experienced student has the right to decline. Any more experienced student may train with
whomever he/she desires, as long as the prospective training partner agrees

-Post-class mat cleaning responsibilities will be delegated to either the last person off the mats,
or the least experienced student present at the end of class
